The stock vintage Mustang parking brake doesn’t work very well - I also found it difficult to reach when I was strapped in my racing harness. I wanted to ensure that I had a mechanical handbrake in case of a hydraulic failure so I installed a Lokar universal handbrake. It requires cutting a slot in the transmission tunnel but other than that it’s a pretty straightforward install.
I matched it with a Lokar gear shift boot. I tried several times to get the handbrake and gear shift boots to stay attached to the chrome rings - more glue and my entire stock of clamps finally did the job. The chrome shift knob is an original Cal Custom aftermarket piece from the late 60’s or early 70’s.
